Question about SMLE
I purchased a Lithgow No1 MkIII that had been "sporterized". It was a good job and the wood is beautiful, but I wanted it to look original, so I bought some used stock (pun intended) furniture for it. After minor fitting and cleaning, it looks great, but the muzzle isn't flush with the nosecap; it sticks out about 1/4 inch. is that acceptable? Thanks, John

Seems a bit much. 1/8" would be noticable. Usually, only the crown itself protrudes.

G'day Glitch,
Here's a photo I had prepared earlier. The protrusion on these rifles measures 2mm.
I hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies. Do stock lengths vary that much? I believe that the furniture I bought might be Indian. Cleaned up nicely, though.

Haven't noticed the fore stock length to vary a great deal, actually. Even Indian examples. Is the front of your front sight base touching the back edge of the nosecap cutout?

Measured some today, as well. Average protrusion ~0.060" (About 1/16"). Not much different than Demo's 2mm measurement.
