When I was at the IWM, I bought this commemorative publication, if you look closely, you can see the wooden cheek rest on the No4 rifles stock being carried by one of the soldiers on the beach, no telescope installed

That's a very good pickup. Wonder is it was one of the scopeless examples or if it was in the can in his backpack.
I was watching the World At War recently and the No4 T turned up a couple of times. Somewhere I saw in a documentary a German with a No4T too.
I would guess the scope is in the can tucked away nice in dry just and case he and the rifle had a bath during the landing.
