1903a3 shoots low, front sight questions

with greek ammo my 1903a3 shoots aprox 6" low at 100 yards.
Do they make a armorers set of front sight blades with different hieghts?
If I need to file down a sight how can you determine aprox how much to remove to raise the bullet strike ?

I put this 03 in a synthetic stock that did not fit well. After a few rounds a tightening of the stock she was grouping much better than the privious military stock(which was very uncomfortable for me, had a chin weld it to see through the sites)

in the end she was set on 250 and shooting a tad left of center. The group at 2 Oclock was the final ten rounds in my little session.

sounds like poor stock fitting issues.. i have yet to find a plastic stock yet that works well with a 1903.. the military plastic stocks made are not ment to be used for shooting, and only drill use,
i would try a good original military stock.

I agree with Chuck about the stock fit. That said, the 03A3 did have a series of different sight blades available. They are usually marked with a letter, with "A" being the tallest. A quick rough calculation would inicate that you need to be "about" .04" shorter on the front blade. A little bit of searching on this site and you will probably find a full description of the different sights available. I made my own sight out of some scrap 16GA and honed the bottom sides of it until it fit in the front sight slot (.050 thick), and then filed it down until I had my desired point of impact for my favorite load. The A3 doesn't exactly have precision elevation control:) The CMP games rules allow a front post width of .10".

My 03A3 shoots about 6"-7" high with HXP, perhaps we should swap sight blades??? My blade extends 5.91mm/0.233in. above the "blade holder". I did not remove the blade, and no letters or numbers are visible.

The stock is a bell carlson.....I made it fit . It was very cheap and good practice for bedding. I will try makeing my own front sights. The original stock shot low also. Heres a link to a little of what I did
