I wonder when Inland started in on this block? The carbine in question has a round bolt, milled PI sight, type V trigger housing but correct type 2 band. Any help appreciated.
Thanks

Per CCNL 361, earliest barrel date from their data sheets is 12-43.
The source I looked at said the block in question (4,879,526--5,549,820) ran from January 1944 to August 1944.
as well as the type V trigger housing.
I have Inland # 5463040 with 8-44 dated Inland barrel, round bolt, four rivet hand guard, PI marked milled adjustable rear sight and type 2 band marked PI in a triangle. The rest of the parts are correct for the era and it's in excellent condition. The carbine appears to be original.
According to CCNL 361, it says trigger housing type 5 (type 3 with oil hole), earliest reported was at serial 5317434. So I would say then that 5.4 would be good chance of original type 5.
i have
inland 5.39 with a 7-44 barrel
inland 5.48 with a 8-44 barrel
inland 5.41 with a 7-44 barrel
I have an excellent original Inland 5464XXX with 8-44 Inland barrel, two rivet hand guard, PI milled rear sight, push safety, and Type II barrel band with upside down triangle. It was bought off a table of hunting guns years ago, and doesn't appear to have been touched.
It is just about like yours Johnnie. A nice mix of the early parts and new. I believe a 4 rivet handguard, round bolt, type two band, push safety, PI type two sight, type 4 PI slide. I haven't seen it but would love to buy it from him as it appears to be original. Some family brought it into his shop after grandpa died and sold it for $500. May happen as my brother isn't really into carbines. I tried to walk him through it and he had some friend who supposedly is a carbine guy tell him it was the best he had ever seen. Problem is, I've already told him what it could be worth. Can't lowball family.
I just posted pics of 5,3 6-44 Inland.
