After some info on a 'scope - NO32 MK3

Hello everyone - noob here - hope I've got this in the correct section :) :o

I have in my possession a 'scope and was trying to find out more info about it.

The markings are as follows:

C B W (painted on)

TEL.STG.C NO.32 MK.3
C O S 2039A
R. E. L. CANADA
273 - C
/|\

The above is stamped into the tube. There is a small bend/dent in the elevation turret and the objective lens cover is slightly misshapen. There are no other markings that I can find. The green C is quite feint, and there maybe a '&' between the B and W, but I'm not sure :o All of the 'stamped' markings have white paint in the bottom except the /|\ marking.

Any ideas as to what it is/where it's from and is it worth anything?

I think I saw that scope (273) at Beltring a couple of years ago.......at Shawns pitch in the hands of a tall slim gentleman .... :-)##

Eh? Is 273 a model no/series no then? Can't be a serial no, as this 'scope has been in my family for 45 odd years ;)

Photos 23 through 30 of the MKL photo tour linked by Lance above ought to answer most of your questions regarding the scope markings, but as to why your "C" was green colored, that's a small mystery.

Yah, it's worth something, BTW. It just depends on how badly the buyer wants it. Is the mounting bracket still attached?

There's a great little book called "Telescope Sighting No.32" by our friend Peter Laidler available that details everything you need to know about these wonderful old scopes. You can get one from DS Solutions in the UK. I'm having a batch printed too "as we speak" as I've been out of stock for a month or two. I'm just awaiting the call to go pick them up. If you have any interest in researching or using these telescopes, it's a necessary read.
