K98 Bolt Parts fitment
Hi All,
I was able to gain access to a Mod 98 that was scrubbed and reworked by the Yugo's after the war.....Pred 44 on the side....
The fella that had it stripped the bolt of all the parts for re-enacting and lost the parts....ughhh... well I ordered a cocking piece safety spring and pin....cocking piece and firing pin mate up fine...but the safety cannot travel from fire to safe.....
I am making an assumption it is the cocking piece so i swapped the firing pin and cocking piece to a known good K98 rifle bolt and the same thing happens....I also took the known 'good' parts from the other RC capture 98 bolt and placed them in this bolt and all was well....
would you agree that i should search out a new cocking piece and try it out??
Thanks
Nick

That is what I ended up doing to solve the same problem on a buddy's K98k. A new cocking piece did the trick, someone had stoned the sear contact surface on his old one......:banghead:

The cocking piece may be your problem but it could also be the safety lever too. Check the beveled edge on the lip of the safety where it engages the slot in the cocking piece, sometimes the angle is too steep and won't engage properly. You can file or stone it to a shallower angle and polish it then it should work better. You can also round and polish the leading edge of the cocking piece slot with a needle file to further reduce the force required to engage the safety.

also always put the bolt in the action before you try to move the safety. Its weird but you cant move the safety when the bolt is out of the rifle.
