Looks like a nice possibly original M1 not M1A1 carbine.
Can you post some pics of the inside?
M1's have the solid wood stock M1A1's have a wood Frint half and a folding wire buttstock.

When you say "pictures of the inside" do you mean take the gun apart? I have never taken it apart! Its been shot once and has been sleeping in a safe forever.
I agree that it is 100% original.

Outward appearance says it is original but some shots of the parts inside would secure that belief for sure. If you are not comfortable taking it apart then don't. Leave it together because regardless of it being original or not it is a fine Inland M1 carbine. Thank you for sharing it with us and welcome to the site. Enjoy.

Ask around. There might be someone on the forum in your area that can show you. Maybe make a new shooting friend to boot.

When it was in the service, it was required that it be field stripped and cleaned! This helps a gun stay in great condition longer. It does not hurt the gun. Just get a book or a friend to help you.

You have to take it apart and oil every piece of metal. The stock needs to be oiled to prevent drying/cracking. Use Raw Linseed oil and Turpentine, 1:1. Rub on sparingly with a piece of terry cloth until no liquid remains on the surface. If it's as original on the inside as it is on the outside, you have a piece of history that requires museum-quality conservation.
