4 groove No4 Barrel, not 2, 5 or 6

Anyone ever actually seen a 4 groove No4 barrel?

I'm in the process of trading for a sporterized take off No4 barrel with 4 grooves.

Sadly it's been cut to 22" and had a Parker-Hale front sight ramp installed.

There is a partially buffed out "flaming bomb" on the knox form.

Comments?

I haven't seen one in a No.4 , only in Mk.III's.

Yeah, I had a '42 MkIII "Dispersal" BSA with a 4 groove barrel.

In theory there should be 2,3,4,5 & 2x6 groove No4 barrels floating around.

2x6? :confused:

How many groves do the Savage barrels have? Could it be one of those?

6 groove left hand (early Savage) and 6 groove right hand (late LB).

My friend has a Longbranch with only ONE groove! Amazing that it even left the factory. Anything is possible with Savage rifles, too, I suppose. It would be easier for them to cut four groove barrels than five, so maybe they made some 4 groove between the 6 and 2. Longbranch seems to have alternated between 5 and 2 through much of their production.

Looked in the new Skennerton LE book, 4 groove to BSA No4, 3 & 5 groove Accles & Pollock!

Yet my 4 groove distinctly has a flaming bomb, a US Savage proof.

I have a #4 MK 1*. it is a Savage and has a two groove barrel.
