what would you do
A friend came over the other day to find information on some military rifles he had just inherited, I identified them for him and did speak for the m44 nagant. The other two were a 1917 GEW 98 and an 1899 oberndorf, not sure if I should have let him leave without speaking for these two as well but I already have 3 8 x 57 mausers and a swede 6.5 x55.
he also had a lee enfield but i already have 4 of them. Should I let them pass or try to buy them.
Mausernut

As a "mausernut" you ought not let any decent Mauser escape! At least as long as you can afford it, and won't get into "trouble". :)

That's about what I was going to say jmoore -
If you can afford it (and get away with it) buy now and ask questions later.
There. You have two for and none against. :D

I'll make it three! Don't let the mausers go if you can afford them.

There are also people in this world who approve highly of Lee-Enfields and other things..... if the guy doesn't want to keep them for himself. That sounds like the starts of a very nice collection, if the fellow has any interest.
There are not all that many Gew. 98s around, eiher; most of the ones that Sidney I. brought in about 20 years ago were double-dated (as mine) and properly should be called Kar. 98B. Sights were modded, too; very few left with the roller-coaster sight.

Took too long and lost the 6.5 but I am getting the 8mm for $300. He is not interested in collecting milsurps but I have now added 2 more to mine (should have been 3). The Lee Enfield was already sold
When he came or I would have grabbed it too.
