Remington M1903A3
I recently purchased an A3 for one of my best friends as a gift for when he gets back from Afghanistan. The s/n is 38279XX and the barrel date is 5-43, are these numbers from the same period? I checked and numerous items on the gun are stamped R. I have taken pictures but I dont know how to upload them from my phone.

Your receiver dates to about July, 1943. The barrel is probably original.

TXoperator was nice enough to email me some photos, but I could not download them to post them. Done it before, but didn't work this time? I was able to view them.
Ya got a nice rifle. It has all the proper mix of blued and parked parts, no signs of a rebuild. Pinned stock with "RA", "FJA" without box, and the crossed cannons.
I'm glad I was able to view the rifle, it brings up some questions I have. Correct me if I'm wrong, pinned stocks were phased out in mid-'43. I think I'm right on that.
Is there a known time period or serial range on when the "RA" was first stamped on Rem A3 stocks? I know the early ones did not have it.
Also, is there a known "range" for the "FJA" not enclosed in a box? Am I correct to assume this is also a feature of early Rem A3 stocks?
Hope thats not too many questions. Mike

As I recall, I believe JB said that both boxed and unboxed FJAs were used at the same time and there was a short period of time when a pinned stock could have an "RA".

Thanks guys I appreciate the information.

I think it's a fantastic thing to do for your friend!

Harlan I appreciate it. This guy has been in 21yrs he has served in Iraq and the stan a few times. When he deployed he asked me if I could find him a 1903, I really know next to nothing about these rifles, and I really just got lucky with this one.

I'm sure he'll love it! If you have some time I hope you post some pictures.
We put together tutorials how to post photos by two different means. Below are links to the tutorials. At the bottom of each there's a .pdf you can open so you can print it and keep it beside your computer to make it easier.
How do I show pics from Photobucket, Flickr, ImageShack etc. on milsurps.com?
How do I upload pictures to my posts for storage on milsurps.com?
