I think the cover is draped down below the rim, making the profile look some what like a German helmet.

I thnk the Marine with the carbine is wearing a M41 Field Jacket.
I noticed it too. The visor almost looked like a German helmet from WWI. Even up close it's hard to make out, but I think he may have some foliage on his helmet or it's even a blemish on the photo, as well as the helmet cover causing a distorted perspective. The bush behind him may also be adding to it.Quote:
