The whole idea of these things is to use cheap, low powered ammo in place of the high power more expensive stuff. I expect there was a time when the pistol ammunition was available cheap but no longer is. I have one of these for my 303 British, may also have one for my Nagant but not sure, have to go digging. I believe they both use several varieties of common US pistol ammo. They look the same as the one you show. I haven't tried them yet.
The 32 acp/32 S&W insert for the 303 and 30-06 can be quite accurate at normal pistol ranges, alot has to do with bore condition too. The 22 rim fire insert has its own firing pin inside.
Has anyone come up with a sup caliber insert, 22 long rifle for a 5.45x39 yet? I don't think it would be that hard seeing we have them for 5.56. If they have let me know###
