Help w/ Saginaw Date?
Can I get some educated opinions as to probable date of manufacture (within 2-3 months) of Saginaw S'G' 1810xxx? I've made a few stabs using different possible production rates and numbering sequence scenarios (w/ S.G. numbers included) and I'm coming up with June or July '43, but not very confident. I just haven't seen enough of them with reliable barrel dates to support or refute my guess. BrianQ tried to educate me on S'G' numbering sequence here once but I am still confounded. Thanks for any help offered. ChipS

That's one of the hardest subjects to discuss in my opinion Chip ! The I.P. / S'G' / S.G thing is difficult territory. I am aware that more research is underway, but in the interim, I would rely on the opinions of Brian and Marcus. Mike.

I have been collecting data on about 75 rifles so far, ear shape, barrel dates, and letter codes. So far only method for sure is ear shape.
For what its worth, your number would fall in the range of 8-43 and would have a square ear and a "J" on the side.
Please correct me if I am wrong.

Here is a little more info for your research of S'G's in that block. S'G' serial # 1867xxx letter square ear "H" on side of receiver (receiver only). S'G' serial # 1875011 (28th from end of serial # block) square ear "V" on side of receiver Inland barrel dated 8-43.

I have S'G' s/n 1829xxx - square ear, J on left side, Type 2 "fat boy" hammer, and the dimple on the trigger housing has a hole part way through it. The Underwood barrel is dated 8-43. - Bob

Thanks to All
I think the consensus is 8-43 or 9-43 mfr date. Much later than I expected. FWIW to anybody keeping track, I only have the receiver (1,8100xx) but it does have the round 'ear' and a 'D' stamped in the left side. I appreciate all responses. Semper Fi, ChipS
