I'm new to the forum and new to the Garand.
I need to know if this ammo that I have is o.k. to shoot in the Garand?
It was made by the Hansen Cartridge Company.
The carton reads 7.62 x 64 M2 150 grain Full Metal Jacket. It was made in Yugoslavia.

The cartridge is dimentionally correct. It's hard to say if it will be too hot for the M1 gas system or not.
The M1 Garand requires ammunition that is loaded to its operational specifications. Standard 30.06 ammunition is too hot and in time will bend your "op rod". The gun will them become unreliable in operation. Op rods can be kind of spendy to replace. I would be picky on my ammo and or reload my own to mil spec.
Spend 35 bucks on a adjustable gas plug, vent the excess (if there is any) pressure, and shoot the ammo. Won't bend an op rod if you vent the excess.
You might also want to look into the Civilian Marksmanship Program. It offers .30-06 ammo specifically manufactured for the M1 Garand, and the best price possible on surplus, non-corrosive ammo. You can buy it in n-clips, in bandos, 198 rounds, or a 200 rounds loose, either put into a .30 ammo can. The best price/deal out there. You will have to be a member of some affiliated CMP organization in order to do business with them.

AFAIK some companies have started manufacturing Garand-spec ammo for the M1 within the last few years .... I think Hornady is one of them. Probably kind of pricey but it will get you started, after that there's a ton of info out there regarding how to roll your own.
I would think by the printing on the box being 7.62x64 and being a 150 grain bullet would be correct but the M2 should designate it as a duplicate of the M2 ball round of the U.S. military therefore being safe to shoot. But that's just the way my demented mind works.
