New P-14

I recently nabbed an ERA P-14 at an auction. The stock is solid and the metal looks good, but it is finished in what looks like black enamel paint. I've got several Enfields and the finish on this P-14 closely matches the finish on some of my Enfields.

I've also got several other P-14's that have a more traditional blued finish, which is what I assumed the American manufacturer's used. Did the British refinish these at some point with the black paint? If so, what did they use and how did they apply it?

I think the british did use some kind of paint on their rifles at some point. You might try asking on the LEE enfield forum.

"Suncorite" is an enamel paint put over the original parkerizing and baked on at a temerature to help preserve to original finish. If it's the original, it will be tough. If it was put on from a spray can (stove paint) in recent years it will come off quite easily.

I intend to leave it alone, until and unless I am convinced that it is some sprayed on stove paint.
