identifying M16
Hello everybody! Does somebody know anything about the M16A1 with a 9million serial number? I had a look at my M16 and it is probably made in the 70s but has a serialnumber over 9 million .When i took a closer look i discovered that the 9 is not realy in place . When i had a look at the M16 offered by other dealers with 9 mi sn it was the same .Does it is possible that the 9 is added later? I have heared that these rifles had been for export , but they are full automatic .Does anybody knows more?

I wouldn't make too much of the 9 being a little off. It seems to be common with numbers that are stamped — no reason to think it was added.
I'm intrigued and a bit envious that you can own something like that in Germany, even with the automatic capability removed. I can see that the sear notch on the hammer has been removed and the top of the sear is gone, even though there is still a pin in the sear hole. Could you pehaps give us a look inside the lower receiver?

The inner is rebuilt with civil AR15 parts . Here is a Photo from inside.

That was quick. Thanks. I'm surprised to see that it looks as though nothing was done to prevent the automatic sear being replaced unless the pin is bigger than it looks. A few years ago a fellow from Italy posted pictures here of his ex-Malaysian M16A1 which had the sear pin hole bored out and a much bigger pin installed. It looked just like yours except for being marked AR-15.
I don't know about M16 serial numbers but the COLT FIREARMS DIVISION/COLT INDUSTRIES marking indicates that it was made no earlier than 1977.

In the 1970s and early 80s the 600 series Colt A1 export rifles were non US Property marked and in the 9,000,000 serial number range.

You have the ubiquitous model 603. The 9000000 serial range was primarily used for guns that went to police agencies.
-
Thank you for the informations , so it is an 603 exported to a police force . I allways thought it might be some kind of police as it shows not much wear after so many years .
-
I believe the export version of the US Property marked 603 was called the 613.

Here's mine. It originally was used/owned by the Regina Police Dept. And has the honor of being the rifle pointed at one of our more "illustrious" politicians from Saskatchewan, Colin Thatcher, when he was arrested for killing his wife.
I wanted the Vietnam era look, so I changed out the flash hider, butt and a couple other smaller bits. It too is a 9000000 serial number.
