How does the rifle attach? Or do you secure it to your person whilst riding?

I was wondering where I could possibly find a new barrel band spring. I was working on my K31 stock and the spring broke off. How do you get it off? Now it's gotta come off to replace it. Any information would be greatly appreciated.:(
