Had a guy bring a 1917 enfield into the gun shop I work part time at for sale. He said it came out of his fathers garage. The gun is a Remington model 1917 that has seen better days, but is all there. Only missing part is the stacking swivel. I was shocked when I looked at the serial number and saw only two didgits 20. Would that make this gun have a premium resale value? No pics now, but I will try to get some on monday.
I have seen 1-2 very low serial numbers. However, all were re-barreled. Did this rifle have its original barrel?
That's one I would have to see.
Would love to see pictures of that rifle.
Did anyone buy it? How much was he asking for it?
I think a 2 digit serial number is worth $500. plus the price of the rifle.

Something about that number that does not look correct.
All markings are very faint and the "20" is not in line.
Value of course is in the eye of the beholder. From your description it isn't a low number rifle, it is a low number receiver with later parts. Since many if not most of these rifles are rebuilds of mixed heritage, I personally value such mixed rifles based on their condition....with an eye towards shooting accuracy. Now a fully intact original rifle with original finish is another matter and having a low number would certainly be even more desirable....but I would be very slow to speculate on how much it adds.
