Hello,
I removed the magazine from my no. 1 mk. III yesterday and saw that it was marked DP, along with some other markings. So, my question is, should this magazine go with a DP rifle? And would that mean it is not functional for some reason? It seems completely functional to me. There are also some oriental-looking markings. Pictures attached of the markings. Thanks in advance,

I suspect there will be something out of whack on this mag to make it DP. BUT, as Mr Laidler has pointed out they somnetimes had to comply with an order for a number of DP rifles and used barely servicable ones to fill the order. It's just that this mag looks like it's definitely got more than it's share of mileage on it. Since it's a DP if you have one of the guns that wants it I would put them together. I'm sure you aren't short of good mags.
I do not have a DP rifle, but if someone with a DP rifle wants this and has one to trade I would be open to it.

Mate, that could be real dangerous. It may disintergrate on firing, spilling rounds out along the firing line, the range officer could slip on one of them, stumble in to the first man along , who may fall on to the next man, and down they all go like domino's.
The ensuring confusion and accusations may inadvertantly cause one firer, who's muzzle was buried in the dirt, to forget to clean out, causing a massive barrel failure, metal fragments flying into the range officer, who may stumble again, clenching his teeth in pain as his face meets the buttocks of the shooter who had the initial magazine failure. That's how it all comes back to bite you on the arse.
The moral to this, if the DP IS NOT ON A BARREL, RECEIVER OR BOLT, don't get too excited, it means diddlysquat.
I dont see any oriental markings. It has been DP'd, then XX out to make it 'servicable' again (Bottom set) and then its been DP'd again later.
Do the markings below DP mean anything?
Yes...as Brit plumber said, that it was DP'd once before, and the first 'DP' was X'd out to put it back into service again before being DP'd the second time..Quote:
