World War One dog tag
My wife's father (my father-in-law) was issued this dog tag, his name was Fred C. Sergent and was born in the mountains of KY. He had saved some of the papers and I was able to list the following record based on the papers. He died in 1974
Enlisted Feb 14, 1917 Columbu Bks Ohio
Corporal Aug 1, 1917 Co L 40th Inf
Sgt July 1, 1918
Battalion Sgt Major July 2, 1919
Regimental Sgt Major Sept 26, 1919 HG Det 2nd Inf
He said that he had to take a reduction in rank following WW1 and left the Army in 1928

What fantastic mementos to leave behind for the family, Robert! - He obviously had his 'stuff' together as a soldier.
Thanks for posting the good photos!

The last thing my grandfather gave me was his dogtags from WW1. He never talked about it but I later found out his last fight was at the Meuse-Argonne. He was awarded the Silver Star.
