Sling from Krag revived with Picards now on 4-digit 03

I bought an 1898 Krag rifle a while back and it had this sling on it. I used the leather cream from Pecards and it made the sling feel like it is new leather, I am happy with the results. I finally got around to installing the sling on the early 03.

The sling looks great. But do not keep tension on the sling. Let it hang loosely. The portion of the sling that is touching the sling swivels will start to crack and break. Loosen it up and it will last a lot longer.

Use a old or soft tooth bursh on the brass frogs get rid of the verdigriss(blue/green stuff)

He's right about the verdigris, but it sure looks great compared to the first shots of it.

Others have mentioned Pecards for old military (or other) leather - looks great! So long as the item is not already compromised (cracks, breaks) it can be brought a long way back, it is said. Looks great and thanks for sharing. CC

That is a Mark I stock on that rifle, besides that it looks great.

Careful in brushing the verdigris. If it gets into the leather it is virtually impossible to remove. Use a toothpick to scrape off as much as possible. Applying a liberal dose of Pecards on the area around the frog helps in removing the verdigris.

I scraped off quite a bit of the green stuff with toothpicks and other small things. I was going to leave the rest because it shows the sling is genuine and old. When I applied the Pecards I had allready lost the detailed instuctions so I just gobbed on the Pecards and rubbed it in with my fingers and then left the excess on and hung the two pieces up for about an hour and then wiped off the excess with clean rags. It is actually as soft and pliable as new leather. The Pecards is a great product. Thanks for all the helpfull tips fellas!
