My father in law was issued a 1917 rifle in Canada during WW2. He was with a transport unit in the East ccoast area.
howdy , I have Remington 1917 with canidian marks stamped into the reciever and stck , would post a picture if I knew how, rooster
Read your other question you posted rooster, it's there.
M1917s were used quite extensively by reserve Army units and POW camp guards in Canada. I have also seen pics of them in use by RCAF airfield defence personnel on the west coast.
I have a Winchester manufactured Model 1917 Enfield (.30-06) with RCAF markings on the buttstock and the tell-tale red band around the forearm to indicate the .30-06 chambering.

Tom,
could that rifle have had a lot of parade ground use age? i only ask this as the muzzle and bayonet boss looks like it has had a lot of work, i.e. parade ground drill and or a lot of bayonet training.
cheers

The Canadians gave 38.395 M1917s to the Danish Army in 1954/55 so I guess they had quite a number of those ;) . I have so far owned three M1917s with Canadian markings, they are not uncommon.
well , we got a few back - i had one as well remington with traces of red paint in hidden places , what a great rifle - excellent shooter , i traded it to a military rifle shooter that had a martini trap gun i wanted ,

I think the 17s were used by guards around American bases. I have a few 17 stocks with traces of a red band.
I have found some interesting ammunition boxes for the 17s. They have a red band on them to indicate 30-06.
