First off, the books say that no IP carbines were accepted by the US Government. So, why would there be a final acceptance stamp of IP and Crossed Cannons on any IP carbine? I was always under the impression that USGI weapons became Us property when the final acceptance stamp was placed upon them. Why wouldnt they all have the S'G' final acceptance stamp?
there are both, some even have both--just because s'g' took over did not mean they had new stamp ready day they took over-again that oart is a wag by me
When S'G' took over the military was pushing the company to make carbines fast. The only parts that were available were all IP marked and the same for the the stamps on hand so all the first carbines made by S'G' are marked IP as well as the stocks. The early IP made stocks are some of the best dark walnut that have a nice rich color to them when cleaned and oiled.
I have a IP with a S'G' cartouche and both sets of sling well markings
MPD1978. That question confused me for a while too ! Have a look at Warbaby, Page 425, first paragraph, "Many of the components ..... etc". That helped me start to understand the situation. I've got plenty of questions left tho ! Hope this helps. Mike.
