I recently saw a No 4 Mk II rifle in the A18xxx serial range marked with a 1957 FTR date. Can anyone tell me when the rifle was actually built?

There's recently been a bit of correspondence about these 'new' but FTR 1957 rifles on this forum. Does your rifle have a cut-off block? Apparently some do and some don't. Clearly the ones without it are 'new' but old! What we'd now call '....new old stock!
I think that the concensus was that they were assembled bodies/barrels/bolts (accountable master components) and were made up into rifles in order to shift them on in order to clear the rifle building for the even newer L1A1's that Fazakerley were getting ready to build. Alas, the workforce disagreed with the managers AND the Ministry of Supply AND the government of the day. Not a wise move as it later transpired! But I could be wrong of course. Could someone wot knows about comp'u'ers an' fings cross reference this thread with the original one regarding these rifles?
Hi Peter,
I don't own the rifle, I'm considering buying it, but I'd like to know a little more about it first.
Cheers
I had A15579 which was identically marked, and didn't have the 'lump' for the cut-off hinge.
