M1 Garand bolt

Hi all,
I am dealing to buy in Italy a Springfield Armory M1 Garand 30-06 rifle.
It' serial number is 5,4xx,xxx so it should be of the '50s
Barrel is SA F 6535488 11 54 MD 43
I checked all Drawing Numbers and they almost match but not the bolt
which is D28287-19SA A9 instead, it should be dated approximately 1945.
Do you think is still safe to shoot with a bolt which might be different if compared to the
6528287 original one for this rifle ?
Could it represent a danger 'cause of a different head space ?

You can check headspace yourself with gauges. I doubt there will be any problem because this rifle was probably checked and tested already. The bolt was likely put in by a former gov't armourer and it's most likely OK. They were all so close in tolerance that they were for the most part interchangeable.

Part swaps are the norm for an M1 during rebuild, the only thing to concern yourself with is the headspace, have it checked by a gunsmith or buy/borrow the gauges and do it yourself. It's always fun watching someone assemble a bolt the first time, the disassembly is the easy part.

If the bolt headspaces OK and is undamaged, yes, it would be fine to use. Garand bolts are interchangeable. The -19 bolt will fit later (and earlier) receivers. The 6528287 bolts were a later version that had engineering improvements. Functionally, the -19 bolt will be OK. The issue with headspace applies to any bolt/receiver combination no matter when the parts were made. I'd check headspace on any rifle I bought, even if all the parts match.

Another issue is your op rod spring. I'd replace any USGI op rod spring & install an Orion 7 op rod spring. The USGI springs sent typically found in M1s may be too short; worn (shiny spots) or rub marks; kinked or even broken. These springs wear out; the Army periodically replaced them.

Orion 7 makes the best replacements available and they are cheap. While you are at it, replace the clip latch spring. These two springs, when worn, are the most common cause of many malfunctions.

The rifle has been for sure checked at the exact moment it has been imported to Italy.
As for the spare parts, I will see what I can find here, most of USA stores cannot ship and send arm parts outside USA or to Italy 'cause of ITAR rules.

OpRod : 6535382 SA
Bolt : D28287-19 SA A-9 --> it can be dated from jun '45 to october '45, and it should be 6528287 instead.
Trigger group : 6528290 SA
Hemmer : SA C5546008
