Making a bolt cut-out for a 1903A4

Has any one here made using a router, the bolt cut-out in the stock for a faux 03A4? I think I will have to adjust the angle to suit the bolt which I have which is a surprisingly good one made by a gunsmith, good enough that I havent tried to get a real one.

Would anyone be able to give me the dimensions and perhaps a few nice photos of the cut?

I expect it will take alot of setting up with jigs and the like for the two cuts, but I would like to get the cut as good looking as possible and not to wreck the stock.

i offer this service, its not as easy as you think to make the cut look right.

I would gladly have you do it however, the stock is in New Zealand. It will never be a perfect clone A4 but is what I have been able to put together from what I have been able to source here and what I have been able to import.

I am a boatbuilder by trade and am confident about using a router to make the cut.

Is the rounded cut, curved inward to take the curve in the bolt handle near to the ball. If so then yes that would be a bit too tricky with a router

What clearance around the bolt handle was standard and what width is it? with that I think I could turn out a good cut fitted to the bolt I have

Roy fit of the bolt handle notch was fairly tight I would suggest no more than a few millimeters of clearance on either side of the handle.
The cuts should be parallel and do your best when finishing to avoid rounding off the edges. On original rifles, even well worn pieces. the edges of the bolt cut remain sharp.
Likewise the bottom edge of the cut should be even and rounded.

You might be able to get a good start by clamping the workpiece in a jig and making two parallel cuts the width of the bolt handle. Notice the picture the flats at 11:00 and 1:00 - looks almost like a dado cut - then finished off with a rotary tool.

i have a couple real A4,s to copy so its easier...i mark an outline with a pen. slight back as you can see, i use a micrometer and make sure the measurements are good, then with a drawfile that the same width, i slowly make a cut, at the same angle that the first sweep cut is done, then with a medium sized ball cutter on my moto tool, i start the rounded cut, some masking tape around the edge is good...you will slip.
keep in mind that this and my cut is made for a real A4 bolt or one of my replica sniper bolts..most sporterized bent bolts wont clear the notch.

I think I can scale it nicely off Jims picture. My bent bolt is pretty close to a real one but where it curves around the scope it is not ground flat, there is a slight roundover.
