What's th3ewhite stuff?

Hello,

I want to post some pictures and, before I do, I'd like to make the markings easier to see by putting the white stuff I often see in the markings to make them more legible. Can someone please tell me what the stuff is and how it's applied?

it is ordinary blackboard chalk or french chalk.

I use white lithium greese.

china marker, or welders chalk works good.

Pipe dope, (stick type) it's a soft paste, non abrasive, water repellant and wipes off easily. It does turn a little yellowish with age if you leave it on. I remember our armorers using it.

Sorry, I'll clarify. Pipe Dope is a brand name of a pipe thread sealing paste that comes in a large "crayon" , they would run it across the lettering and wipe a rag across it to clear the excess, very quick and only one pass was needed, perfect every time. After time it would get a slight yellowish color that actually looked very good.

I may switch to pipe dope for my "factory white letters". I do like the slightly yellowed look.
