I also have a rifle ( besides the '03) I haven't been able to identify. It has an 'RA 8-43 barrel and some type of Mauser? action. The stock has been cut down and Lyman sight model 57sme has been added. ( minus eye disk ) What have I got?

You got a Mauserfield 98:D. Seriously thought it is a LR 98 Mauser action that someone has installed a 1903a3 barrel on. Seen a few but they were'nt done up quite like this one. What I'm trying to figure is why the bottom of the reciever ring has been cut out. Is it still 30-06? Not sure I'd want to shoot it........
interesting. i've seen plenty of mauser actions but never one with the projection.
1903A3 barrel, rethreaded for a mauser..
Looks like a German WWI Kar 98a small ring Mauser. Lots of these were made into 7.62mm sporters. Looks OK to me.
According to the Hoosier site this is a series III. Another site mentioned that the Polish WZ98's were sold to Spanish Republicans during the Spanish Civil War and they (the Spanish) removed the majority of the markings before giving them to the troops. The receiver of this one is void of any markings where they usually would be. Maybe? Would ' LP 348' on the left side be the S/N?
