I aquired an old web sling which appears khaki, but could be OD green. The condition(poor at best) makes it hard to tell. Obviously old. The keeper is more simple than on all other slings of this type that I have seen. Just a 90 degree angled stamped metal keeper. No cylindrical area to hold sling when locked. Can anyone give me any info on this? Sorry, but no picture capability. Thanks, Bob
Probably a washed out well used early flat slider sling. Came into use at the late part of WW2 and the Danish had some made for their use a few years back that look very close. The sling weave is coarser than US issue.
Thanks Jim. The weave is not coarse. The metal end attachment is dry rotted about 1/4 through from both ends. Looks to be more than just a few yrs old. In terrible shape, but all there. Usuable only for display on a WW11 gun. Still, a piece of history. Thanks again, Bob
Don't throw the slider away. If it's GI the slider can migrate onto a sling that may be marked 44 or later. The sliders are the hard part to find because I think the thin sliders broke. Thus the ones with heavier metal.
My point about the coarse weave is I thought I had come across a trove of old sliders but after examination I found them to be Danish made. The slings are different material.
Thanks Jim. Can find no markings on the metal, which has a layer of rust, but sling is marked D3079, very faint, near the buckle. I'll look closer later for a date. Bob
