5 digit M1 Carbines, probably a late or more current production??
I just "rescued" a sportorized M1 Carbine, have not gotten it yet, should be here in a few days.
I'm going to immediately remove the stock as I'm a big fan of the old, original Walnut stocks
(probably have to buy one if anyone has one available, looking for something that shows it's
age...like me). All I know for sure is 1. it was cheap and 2. It has a 5 digit serial number.
More will obvious when I get it but I'm pretty much setting myself up for it to be a late model
from someplace like Springfield but I can't be sure. Does anyone know if they were stamping
these newer M1's with numbers in the 5 digit range? Will post photos when it arrives.
Have not got high expectations but you never know.
Might as well mention here that if there there are any guitar fanatics out there, I build
copies of old Martins and have some old Martins to trade for a Garand. Long shot but I'm
going to keep trying.
Thanks in advance for any ideas on this, much more when the thing finally arrives.
