Unusual Garand Stock Holes
I just received a field grade CMP M1. The receiver is SA in the 2.69 million neighborhood. The date on the barrel is within a month of the date I found on the receiver (March 1944), so I suspect it is original. The stock, however, is a replacement as the only marking it has is the DAS eagle, which I understand was used much later.
Now getting to the point: There are 2 unusual (to me anyway) holes on the left side of the stock. I'm not sure if these are defects or intentionally made. The shape and orientation of the holes seem too regular/similar to be random defects. Have a look at the pics. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Steve
