Smith-Corona rear site problem

I recently accuired a SC #36296XX with a SC 1-43 6 groove barrel. The rear site was pushed almost off the right side of the receiver when I got it. It came off with little effort. But in wanting to re-install it I see there are no index marks on the dovetail on top of the receiver. How would I get it set "in the right position" so the sight actually works accurately? There is no set screw which I understand is normal for late SC sights. Only a few dimples in the bottom of the site. Can I just re-use this as is or do I need to restake? If so what's the best method? Can I use Locktite? Heard this would work. I am just looking to get this thing on so I can use it.

dont waste your time with the old sight, buy a new one, or one that has been rebuilt..drive the sight from right to left on.
the 2 lines on the rear of the sight,..center line is the windage for the sight, line on the right is the witness mark for the alignment of the sight.
sight you have pictured is a late style sight with no set screw, on the left side of the base, you should see a staking hole, adjust the sight all the way to the right,,,youll see it,
sight should have a X or no marking...X is actually a script H, Hadely tool.

I assume the index mark is lined up with the edge of the dovetail when installed?

should be a light index line on the receiver as well.

There is no indexing mark on the dovetail. Do you just center the sight by eye? No staking hole either. Just those little fingers of metal in the dovetail.

I received an 03A3 with a damaged rear sight, but using the link below as a guide, I replaced the sight, and yes I had to align the rear by sight as I had only the witness mark on the sight base. However, I was always confused why the front sight was leaning left, a recent thread here explained that to my satisfaction. Eventually I did have to adjust the base off-center to the left to make up for the barrel alignment problem, whether that is acceptable or not to others I can't say. Follow Chuck's advice and don;t get discouraged if it's not perfect first time, some adjust may be required before you stake it.

I put the sight back on and had no witness mark to go by so I lined it up by centering on the bolt channel. I assumed that this would line it up with the bore so it will be close to being centered. I went and checked it with my Remington 03A3 and found that the sight on it, lined up to witness marks, is offset a little to one side. I guess I need to know if these sights are lined up differently at the factories or if they should be lined up the same way and what my solution should be if I did this wrong.
