Quick response needed: C No. 7 .22 Trainer - the real deal?
Have come across a C No. 7 trainer, in chest, at what I believe a good price, but have some concerns.
I've gone through the Knowledge Library entry for these rifles and here's what I can tell you...
The receiver is dated 1944 and has the "Type 1" marking as identified in the MKL entry. However, the s/n on the wrist (and bolt) is a 1L#### number, so would appear to be outside the range specified in the Knowledge Library entry.
the ".22" marking on the mag housing appears correct, but is high on the housing, almost to the point of being obscured by the trigger guard housing.
The chest appears to contain all the kit, but is painted/marked somewhat differently than the example in the MKL. Chest is stencilled with rifle's s/n and there is a label affixed to the end of the chest with information typed, and the s/n of the rifle written in on one line.
Tough without pictures I know, but any guidance welcomed as to how else to check if it's factory or a private build. Thanks.
