Hello all.
Was degreasing a 1944 Long Branch, noticed barrel has "F55" stamping and poorly struck proof mark which is not Canadian. Any ideas? Thx.

Barrel replaced. I have a Longbranch 1941 with a F51 barrel
F55 is Probably Fazakerley 1955, F51 Fazakerley 1951....
Thanks for the ideas. The proof could be Great Britain or India... can't tell for sure.
Fairly common replacement barrels on Long Branch rifles. Why? No idea! But they turn up much more regularly than Canadian rebarrels.
Thanks for the info. Any idea where the re-barreling was done? The rifle has no "FTR" markings...
Any Base workshop or Command workshop. A Command is a workshop level between Base and Field level would/could re-barrel a No4
Thanks again. So, the British Commonwealth was still servicing No. 4s in 1955 (if we assume F55 is Faz. 1955)?
We were still rebarreling and servicing them, albeit on a limited/restricted basis until the '90 or so
