I have acquired what seems to be a rare 1943 Long Branch Enfield No.4 Mk.1 cal .303 "Jungle Carbine" in pristine 100% condition, never issued, never fired! It is totally beautiful, no marks of any kind. Only the leather sling is showing age. But, I find zero info on such a rifle! Everything I read says "Jungle Carbines" were all Engield No.5 ? But I got a 1943 No.4 with 20.75" barrel tip to cartridge end, 40" overall, flash arrestor, dog ears on front sights, and rubber insert in butt plate. How can this be??? Help appreciated. NETexan

This would probably be better in a thread of its own, but the short answer is that you have a No.4 rifle that has been modified to replicate a no.5 rifle. No.5 "Jungle Carbines" were not even produced before 1944.

Acording to Stratton, several thousand extra actions were made between 1942 & 1944. Many of these ended up with unit armourers who made up whatever came to mind. I had a 1944 LB Jungle Carbine in .22 cal. and have another with a target rifle stock that most likely had similar origins.
