Tokarev SVT 38 help with info and value please.

as the title says , basically I know very little about these rifles, I do not collect military rifles and probably never will. I bought an estate collection and in it were a bunch of military rifles, some sports and some not. I have all the books and can see all the pricing and have been on gunbroker as well, where in 2006 and 2007 these rifles went for $2300 and over $3000 but that does not necessarily reflect true current value or the present economy.

I will be selling all of the items eventually but at the moment am trying to do a little research, historical and value wise.

any help would be appreciated.

mag numbers do not match but i have 2 extra, another 10 and a smaller one, i m guessing 5.


the first rifle is all matching numbers that i can find including the wood, with one questionable, there is no serial number on the bolt itself but there is one on the bottom of the bolt mechanism its a small thin part not really part of the actual solid bolt and there is a number there that does not match the rest of the rifle numbers. It has strong shootable rifling albeit dark and frosted and in need of a really good scrub. Good solid wood as well.

The second rifle is much like the first in condition but the wood number does not match , all the rest do including the bolt on this rifle.

I can't help you with value as I don't collect this genre, but it is a pretty looking piece ... :thup:

They just don't show up all that often. About the only way to find out what it's worth is to stick one out on Gunbroker, etc. and see how the auction goes. Good photos will help your case immensely. The Canadian market is likely a bit different than the one in the US, so that makes putting a price tag on them all that much more difficult for those of us outside the country.

Something I wouldn't mind having one day, but the timing is bad for me right now!

Never seen a Tokarev SVT 38 on the UK D/A market. However the D/A SVT40s sell for about £175.00. The sniper scope rail version sells for a bit more. The telescopic sights and bayonets sell for a lot of money as well!

The fair market value is $900 in the U.S though at gun shows they very occasionally appear with an asking price of $1400.
The model 40 with correct Tula arsenal scope and rails is $5400.Again very rare and asking price is $7400 though i doubt they sell for that price.
i have a model 38 and two model 40's. one has the correct tula scope and rails. the other model 40 has the rails only.

I paid $900 for mine 30 years ago. Today it is $5000. There are none to choose from. I paid $1000 for my G41M. It was a lot of money...... Today? Money is an abstract. gary

I've collected them for years. The values will vary, but generally the SVT38's will run $2500 and up. The 1939 dated rifles will bring more than 1940 and the Ishevesk rifles will bring more than Tula. A 1939 Ishevsk is the least common. All matching SVT38's are extremely rare. You need to take a lot of close-up pictures of the details to get the best prices. I can see from your pictures that one has an SVT40 bolt carrier (with the dished out sides to reduce weight) so that would reduce the value some.

It's been a while--I bought a couple of Lee Metford Carbines from you a few years back. Canadian pricing is hard to estimate at the moment, but I paid $2000 for my SVT 38 about 4 years ago, and it has some patching in the wood. The SVT 38's are rare, as most were lost in the war with Finland or early in the Russo-German war. There is no point in comparing prices of SVT 40s because those are common. If your SVT 38s are matching or even not matching but have original SVT 38 parts, and have the cleaning rods (which yours seem to) then I would think 2000 plus, or slightly less if more parts replaced. Fundamentally, though, this model was a relatively delicate rifle made in comparatively small numbers at the start of a war which consumed millions of men and their equipment. These were service rifles which were used hard by ill-trained and frequently illiterate troops in some of the darkest days WWII, may have changed hands/sides more than once, and were undoubtedly damaged and reissued with other parts more often than not. While a mint matching unit would be fantastic to find, just finding one at all is uncommon, and they are what they are. I wouldn't mind seeing some good closeups of all the markings--receiver, barrel, stock, etc.

If the svt 38 is worth $2000, then what is the svt tokarov rifle with a correct scope and rails worth then?
I want to sell my tokarov rifles but i have heard horror stories about the activities of buyers who alter or damage the items and then claim improper facts.This happened to me with an ebay auction sale of a rare german steel helmet. The buyer dislodged a rivet leaving clear evidence of post sale tampering.I discovered this only after the returned item.At this point in my life, i let the issue lie not wanting any hassle but it lowered any future sale value.
What is a a good site for selling the tokarov's ?
i have no experience in selling guns by auction.
