OK,so I bought a brownells front mauser blank and put it in,tookthe gun to the range and got a little carried away with the file.A little too much off the top of the sight.I would like to maybe build up some solder on the sight so I can file it back down again,need to know if I can use regular old solder like is used for soldering speaker wires,or do I need something different?
Regular old solder will work, but it's really soft. If you are super careful, I reckon it would do, but it would have to be painted. Or solder on a bit of wire for a bead. If you know a welder, maybe y'all could work out some sort of deal.
Or just buy another.
I was thinking a piece of baling wire soldered on.just wondering if it will be strong enough to handle a bump or two with regular solder.
I would just get another, now you've had the experience you know you won't make the same mistakes. You won't be happy with a cobble job...

Doing things the easy way just doesn't fit with my OCD type style,so instead of just ordering a new sight and starting over,I came up with the bright idea of drilling and tapping a hole and installing a shotgun front bead.I actually just got the idea while typing this post,so it's off to measure the threads on my shot guns bead!After i've completely destroyed the current sight with my playing,I'll buck up and order another blank.I just gotta tinker.
Thats a big "no-go" on the shotgun bead,a very small machine screw maybe.
FYI,brownells front sight blanks are made of steel,I would know that if I read the description,I turned on my mig welder and built up a little spot of weld on top of the sight and re-filed.some blue touch up pen and it looks great.
