Garand sources

Aside from the old DCM and the current CMP was there any other means to obtain a Garand(not including theft from the US Military or any other illegal method)? I guess what I'm getting at is were they ever surplused out from the Military directly to private individuals?

Before the CMP, there were several sales of imported M1s, the LLs being the first. Then there were the police sales in the 1980s. Winchester also sold WIN-13s at auction in the late 1970s when they closed their museum.
