I saw a what I think the guy said was a 1945 rem rand that was made on original GI machines after the war but not for the military. It was in what looked like an original box with some presintation material? I didn't look that close as the price was way up there though it looked new unfired. Was there such a thing and would it be $2600?
Remington Rand made a run of pistols with no military markings with an ERRS prefix on the serial number. Some have taken it to indicate Experimental Remington Rand Service, but most indicate very late production. More than likely they were used as gifts to supervisors at Remington Rand after the war.
Notice it does not have the UNITED STATES PROPERTY, M 1911A1 U.S. ARMY, or Ordnance acceptance stamp on the right side. It also does not have the FJA on the left side, but does have P proofs on slide and receiver.
The NO. ERRS appears to have been lightly applied with a roll die, while the serial number appears to have been hand stamped.
