New guy with an old 1917 Eddystone

Hi all -

My sister gave me this Eddystone 1917 for my birthday yesterday. I'd be interested in your opinions on it.

I take it a mixture of parts is pretty normal for these guns. The serial number seems to place it very late in the production run. Do the R on the barrel and the AA stamp on the stock indicate a post-war rebuild? Is the two tone finish on the receiver normal?

Thanks for any info you can give me. This is my first 1917, but not my first milsurp gun.

Opinions on what? Your sister or the rifle? Both OK in my book.

is your sister single? i need a great lady like that...buys a rifle for her brother..thats pretty sweet.

A rebuilt could have any combination of parts. The AAP stamp is, I think, August Arsenal and it looks to have been overhauled after WW1. Still a very nice example with a nice finish on it.

According to Ferris, p.110, AA is presumed to be Augusta Arsenal, and a following letter would be an inspector's mark. Ferris does not have a "P" example, but cites R and BG as examples. Such marks without a box and with the letters applied individually (note the different size of the P) are WWII vintage.

Haha! She's 61 and wider than she is tall, so I'll spare you. She does like her baby brother, though.

I took the 1917 out into the BLM for a quick test fire. I only had 20 rounds of Federal Wal-Mart 150 grain softpoints, but it functioned just fine, and broke rocks with authority.

It's beautiful!!!
