The rifle in the photo is a standard 6.5x55mm m/96 Swedish Mauser long rifle made by Carl Gustafs, the type was adopted by the Swedish Military in 1896 and production of the type ceased in 1925. It is probably the best mauser ever built its quality is second to none, they were still in use in there m41/B sniper form in the mid eighties. The actions were so well made that thy were rebarrelled and restocked to make the CG63 target rifle a world beater in its day. They are a dream to shoot the long barrel and 6.5mm round make for a very comfortable shooting experience.
Whats it worth? I paid 100.00. Stock is like new. Gun is excellent. What do the numbers indicate on stock ?
Hi, $100 is probably a good price but as I live in the UK it's only a guess, I know that they fetch a lot more than that over here and I have yet to find a bad one. As for the numbers on the stock and by that I assume you mean the stock disc it shows information about the rifle bore and its condition with regards to wear. for more info type "House of Karlina" into google you will find a very good site that should answer most of your questions. There are also some very good books on the subject, at the cheaper end is "The Swedish Mauser Rifles" by Steve Kehaya and Joe Poyer ISBN 978-1-882391-26-4 printed by North Cape Publications, it is the third edition that you should be looking for be carefull if you look on ebay as a lot of people are trying to shift there old second editions... If you really want to find out about the Swedish Mauser rifle family then probably the best book you can find is "Crown Jewels" The Mauser in Sweden by Dana Jones ISBN 0-88935-283-6 it is a collector grade publication so is not cheap but a must for anyone who has more than a passing interest in the Swedish Mauser. It is all matching, most of them are. It was the second rifle I cleaned by putting the stock on the dash board of my car. The stock is very light in color.
It is probably good that I started collecting a bit late. As much as I enjoy obtaining,researching ,accessorising I would probabaly be living with my collection in a van down by the river. Prioritizing seems to be my biggist challange. Thought a Garand would be next and had a S&W Victory model Navy pilots pistol dumped in my lap. I am going to try and avoid the pistol tangent for the moment although a Webley,Luger, and a P38 are avaliable to me.
Good luck with the collecting you need a very understanding "other half", you are lucky that pistols are still available to you as thay were all banned here in the UK years ago, illegal ownership nows carries a 5 year prison sentance !!!!!Quote:
