Friends-
I have a question regarding the duck-ponds in M-1917's and P-1914 rifles. I think I read somewhere, where, Eddystone's and Winchester's all had the duck-pond milled into the receiver. I have also read or seem to remember that as for Remington produced rifles that the duck-pond was a "mixed bag." Some had duck-ponds and some didn't?
Is my understanding correct and would someone possibly offer some official commentary regarding this?

I cannot speak for the P14's for I know nothing about them. For the M1917's and the "duck ponds" as you call them. My info says:
Remington - None
Winchester - Always
Eddystone - a "crap shoot" some do some don't.

Ones without were much valued for conversion to sporters as it avoided the need to fill in or otherwise disguise this unsightly area.
Recently saw a Remington P14 which to my surprise had the "swimming pool" as we tend to call it around here. Previously believed that no Remingtons had this.
