Hello all,
I have just purchased my first Lee Enfield,I am curious that it does not have the place of manufacture stamped on it, there is a crown with GR under it then the Letter E the year 1942 and Sht. LE 111*,also above the crown O is stamped it has matching numbers prefixed by the letter M, X is stamped on the butt , can anyone help to ID it for me?or do I have a dud! Sorry no photos still trying to work it out.

Sounds like you may have an Ishapore....is there an 'I' to the right of the 'GR'? (maybe kinda worn?) Pics definitely.

It's a 1942 "Dispersal" rifle...produced by BSA, whose manufacturing facilities had been dispersed to various scattered locations in order to avoid German bombing. Looks like a good one from here.

Aussie soldier went away to war with a Lithgow, rifle handed in for repair a BSA issued in place soldier returns to Ozz with rifle at the end of the war.
