H.Q. (?) Handguard
Correct me if I'm wrong...
I dug this one out this morning. To me it looks like the H used by Hillerich & Bradsby. Same size H found on H.I. marked Stocks and Handguards. The cross on the H is just above half way.
Stamped H.Q. for QHMC, a Type II handguard.
2 pictures, the Type II H.Q. and a Type II marked with the H.I.
Thx,

Charlie, I could be wrong, but looks like an IO that the I was played with??? The left side appears longer then the right. John

John,
Played with....
It does look that way in this pic.
But I'm sure it isn't a toyed with IO. The O in IO is a bit taller with a slightly more ovaled shape.
I just finished cleaning ~ 75 IO HG's. To be honest....... I'm tired of looking at IO IO IO IO IO IO IO IO........
Thx for the look.
Cheers,

P.S. Hopefully I'll find another H.Q. to compare

IO , IO , it's off to work we go .....
Dang it , it's in my head now.

Charlie, it is a real handguard from Hillerich & Bradsby for QHMC. Riesch mentioned it and it is a bit rare. I also have one just like it. I understand that it was a late production handguard. I also have a H.Q. Hillerich & Bradsby stock which is a bit rarer. I posted some pics of the stock markings a couple of years ago, but not the handguard. I will dig it out if you want to compare, but the markings look just like yours.
Hope that helps...

This is the link for the thread with the H.Q. stock. The mark is the same.
Sling Well Marking Question
I am not at the house with the handguard. I will try to post some pics of it sometime next week if it will help.

Hey Ed,
Thx..
I have another H.Q. handguard here, but it's either in a box of nearly 750 HG's.. Or I might get lucky and find it in the next box of 150 I'll be getting to in a few days.
My picture looks a bit humpy (new word)
But in hand the marking looks fine.
Hot down there?

Damn Charlie, I need to become you next best friend!!!! I do not know anyone that has TWO H.Q. handguards! Let me know if you run across any H.Q. stocks. I had hoped to find out more info on them, but it seems that all the info was lost to history.
Hot? Not as bad as it was last year and we also have rain this summer. I think that the people who are suffering are those in the midwest - they are not used to all the heat.
Wife has "significantly delay" on alot of my collecting activities, so I have had to focus on the hobby of "honey do". Wish i had 750 handguards to sort through! What a life you got my friend!

3 Attachment(s)
Charlie, I was able to get some quick pics of the handguard tonight. Not the best but it shows it is just like your markings.
I am curious if the markings on yours is positioned the same way as they are on mine (horizontal on the left underside facing inboard)??
Has anyone got any history on these????

TR,
Your's is stamped on the same side and horizontal placement as the one here on the desk......... Mine is just past the knotch on the otherside, so about 3/4" farther toward the frt nose.
Just so you know.... the big box I have is on top of a storage shelf. To heavy for me to be tugging on right now. My Orthopedic reads this forum...... this should make him happy!!
But I have a gut feeling the other H.Q. I have is in one of the smaller 150 count boxes. One of those will be the next I tear in to.
I'm trying to document the different milling cuts near the knotch, the sight groove and letter stamps.
Like the early OI, then that same OI as on the Type I and II found on the early 4 rivet vs. the later 2 different size/style OI found on the late 4 rivet HG's. Or the smaller RSG vs. the larger RSG... Or the smaller W vs. the larger W.. etc. Bigger project than I was planning on doing, but since I have the chance, I feel the need to contribute. Hopefully the CC doesn't already have all of this recorded ;-(
Thx,
