Looks like a can of diced tomatoes, probably post-war production ;)
At first, I thought it was an old distributor cap.... :lol:
Is it made out of some kind of bakelite type material?

Any markings? It does look like a WWII German fuze/charge/ordnance container....
Lens container?
I'm not sure but I think it is some kind of photographic film canister. I have one just like it and I think my dad told me that was what it was.

Sold by Princess Auto and others about 30 plus years ago....use unknown, but were Canadian military surplus. Suspect they were for film. Still have a few and good for small part storage.
