12-207 Garand Picture of the Day
All the photo's on this page belong to Wilton L. Chase. They were submitted by his son Gary M. Chase. Wilton was a member of Company "L", 223rd Inf Regt. He was in the Iron Triangle area in the Kumwha/Kumsong area in 1952.
Kumsong (Mouse) - Jan/Feb 1952. We had what was called a "clam up" for 7 days - no one could show themselves in day-time. No fires, only heat pills and K-rations. When it was over, we were pretty dirty. I made up quite a story for Frances (my wife) about this mouse. I got off guard one morning here and was getting into my sleeping bag when a N. Korean or chink came by and sold the other guys candles for cigs, but I kept my rifle on him. The guys "ha ha'd" me, but he got caught going back through the lines. He had a map of our area and of guns. The one that caught him went on R&R for a week to Japan.
