M1 Carbine Type IV Safety Question

I have an Inland serial #5,262,898, barrel stamped Inland Div. 6/44 with a type IV safety marked with a horseshoe and an M inside. Or possibly a C with M inside? This rifle has been thru RIA/EB rebuild. My question is could this rifle been originally equipped with a type IV (EI or HI) leaving Inland or was a push button type III correct for this time frame? If it did leave with a type IV I would like to buy an USGI orginal type IV EI or HI safety if anyone has one to sell. Thank You James

A Type III (per Riesch) unmarked push safety is 'correct' for your mid-44 Inland. I don't think the Type IV flip safety was issued until the middle of 1945.

I think the use of the rotary safety started about mid March 1945 when it was adopted by ordnance. Only Winchester and Inland of course made and used them. All the other makes were late war/post war updated ones.

Thanks ChipS, I have heard early to mid 1945, but didn't know if lag time would have made it possible for the flip safety to be as issued correct. I personally like the Type III push safety, but wonder what was correct.
