Garand Rack Numbers- 8-1944 DOB

Recently acquired a 8-44 garand with duplicate rack stamped numbers on the butt & on the forearm belly. Have seen the numbers mentioned in posts and photos but am wondering if there is any way teh numbers can tie into the history of the rifle. What unit it was issued to, theater, etc. Anyone have any references or expert knowledge on Rack number significance?

I'm sorry to say the GAW markings and cannons are super fake. Those are what i call the Genie Bottles. Below are equal sized comparisons and you can even see the cannons are overall to big. Rick B

After going through the cartouche quiz I kinda thought that, that is why I added it to the post. Figured I would get a confirmation from an expert.

So Rick are you saying from the fake cartouches the rack numbers are probably fake also?

Guess I need to go looking for a correct stock to go with my rifile.

Leggett71, Actually I swear along time back I worked on this stock for someone but no Inspection markings were on it. I remember numbers exactly like this and they were light enough that I still thought steaming them would do no good so I had not. When they do not have markings I do not keep records unless it is something worth doing. Most people will ask what stock they have and I tell them what markings should be on them. I guess in a case like this they ware asking only to be deceitful later.

I will try to go through my log in records and see if I see it marked down there. I have records for every stock I have ever worked on and sometimes make notes of numbers like this.

If it helps from a PM I received earlier from the rifle owner prior to the gentleman I purchased the rifle from. The rifle 2 owners ago hailed from Phoenix. He indicated it came from a destroyer escort ship number 646.

Had no idea from this post I would be tracking the rifle's journey.

They don't look like rack numbers to me. The purpose of rack numbers is so you can identify the rifle in the rack quickly without stooping down and using a flashlight (or your Zippo) to read the serial. Numbers on the side of the stock don't help, you can't see them. Foreign armies often marked the serial or a partial serial there, that's what it looks like to me.

Sorry for the bump - but I'd like to share my nearly identical stamped "rack" numbers with the group - and see if anyone has uncovered any info on this?
