L42A1 at the range
Just returned from the range after shooting the L42 for the first time and am very pleased with the results.
The rifle was lovely to shoot and the recoil felt substantially less than the No4T
As I had stripped the drums on the scope to unseize them I bore sighted the rifle/scope before I left as described in Peters book, and the first round hit the target only about 3" from the point of aim - it worked really well.
For those interested the handloads used were 42 grains Reloader 15 behind Sierra Match King 168 grain.
Range was 100yds, conditions pretty good (for Wales!)
Hopefully get round to posting detailed pictures of the rifle/scope soon....

Yep, definately deceased.

Good shooting! Your load is almost identical the the one I use for my Steyr Scout Rifle. I use 42.2 gr. RL 15 and the same bullet.

Thanks!
I only used it as a staring load - its the same as I use in my Accuracy International AW with very good results.
I don't think that I need to change too much.....

With this load, I am able to hit man silhouettes out to 850 meters. The limiting factor is my 4X Hensoldt scope not the round.
I am building an L42A1 from a Maltby 1941. Lothar Walther is making the barrel. I hope mine shoots as well as yours.
Good shooting.

Good Luck with building the L42 - I took a bit of a punt with mine, buying it from a German auction site on the basis of a couple of grainy photos.
Simon on the forum very kindly confirmed its pedigree via its serial number and the price was right so I went for it.
It paid off and I am very pleased with it - the bore looks mint.
I have found relaoder 15 to be the best powder (and I've tried quite a few) through the 7.62 and the .303", although the furthest I've shot them out to is 600 yds - yet to try the L42 at that distance
