I already have a couple Mosin-Nagant rifles. Maybe I should have a revolver to go with them?!? :-)
Anything to watch out for when buying one of these? I can't imagine I'll do anything with it other than taking it to the range periodically to shoot. Now exactly the ideal CCW lol...
They are all in pretty great shape when you get your hands on one. Don't know where home is for you but check out aim surplus on the web. They always seem to have the best deals running on whatever they are carrying.
You can get replacement cylinders for them that shoot 32 ACP if you want to shoot less expensive ammo through it. A heads up on this: Those cylinders don't just drop in and work with any gun. About half work and half don't. It may take a little tinkering and fitting to get one to work properly if you decide to go that route. Aside from that, really neat guns with a unique design. Certainly worth adding to any collection. Especially for the price.
Factory ammo is the big thing with these as it is not cheap and reloading for it can be problematic sometimes. You can use .32 S&W long ammo in them but accuracy can be hit or miss with this ammo.
There's also a bunch of surplus ammo for them out there in circulation right now. While it's cheaper than the commercial stuff, it's still pricey. As for other ammo, be careful with that. I hear bad things about that from time to time. I prefer to side with caution, even if it is based a little bit on being overly paranoid.
The .32 S&W long rounds are fine in the Nagant as the pressure is low. One has to be careful not to use the .32 Magnum ammo which is not a good thing to use in this revolver.l
I just got my C&R, and I considering a Nagant revolver as well. I see that the surplus ammo is corrosive. How much extra work does this cause after a trip to the range?
It's no worse than any other corrosive surplus ammo. Just clean it well when you get home. I usually spritz a little Rem-oil down the bore after shooting once whatever I'm shooting cools down. Then I give it a good cleaning when I get home. In the end, through the years I've found it's not that big of a deal. If your still concerned, buy the commercial ammo.
I have one and I reload for it using Lee dies.
I have had excellent results both in reloading and accuracy with this round.
Fun to shoot, complex/unique design and your holding a piece of history.
I'd say go for it, you won't be disappointed
